I am the person Jake referred to in his posting, and as the name may confuse, I am male.
I am in Ontario Canada, have been effectively blind in my left eye for 9 years and now have Macular Degeneration in the right eye. This happened very quickly and was probably noticed early since the left eye was being ignored by the brain, so the right side problems showed quickly. Right eye has hemorraged twice this year and I have had 2 visudyne laser treatments so far. The last one was on Jul 20th and I am waiting to see what happens now.
I will post more details a little later after I have browsed thru to see what is here. I am currently using software called Zoomtext on a trial basis.
Glad you found us. Sorry to hear about your eye situation, but man can I relate. Please let me know if there's anything I can help you with on the forum. I'm sort of new at this whole "forum Business", but hopefully people, like yourself, will connect and help each other through it.
Yup, you could, and I wouldn't be able to answer you. ;) I'm here because Jake sent me a link thru email. I'm not sure how he found you but he is a helpful fellow and must have gone searching after my problem surfaced and he took it upon himself to see what he could find. Nice fellow that Jake. :)
Good to meet you, Sharm. I am J2E's wife. It is amazing how well the JAWS sightreader works for him - I am always amazed at everything he can do on the PC and how unlimited he (and others) are with using JAWS and not being able to see.

Hello KJ
I am using a trial version of Zoomtext at the moment. I will cost me about $700 USD to buy. I took a look at the JAWS site and noticed that software was over $1,000 and I don't know if that is USD or something else. It was nice to "meet" you. I gather this forum is fairly new based on the number of members and traffic here. Anyways, talk to you later.
Hi All I found Lights out from a google search, but it was too far back and it's slipped of my browser history, so I can't remember the words I put in. It was something like "blind surfing" I'll try and a few combinations of words and see if a I can remember. I know there seems to be no other forums of this kind around, so you could tell some sort of news media about it and possibly get more users.
